As a solo parent on a tight budget and also not the type of person to be attracted to all the marketing hype (BS) surrounding high profit-margin mainstream Whey Protein powders, here’s my own homemade budget-friendly protein shake that takes just a few minutes to make.

46.2g of Protein from Pure Natural Ingredients!
All the ingredients are relatively cheap, certainly here in the Philippines and compared to the CRAZY prices demanded for mainstream Whey Protein powders.
Ingredients
Ingredient | Amount | Protein (g) |
---|---|---|
Soya Milk (substitute with your preference) | 500ml | 16.9 |
3 Eggs (Raw, whole) | large | 18.0 |
Cocoa Powder | 3 heaped tbsp | 3.3 |
Peanut Butter (unsweetened) | 2 heaped tbsp | 8.0 |
Honey | to taste | nil |
Cinnamon | to taste | nil |
Total | 46.2 |
Method
Pour milk into blender first. *Then add the eggs and cocoa powder. Blend on slow speed initially. Whilst blender is still spinning, add the honey and peanut butter. Adding the honey and peanut butter to the mixture whilst the blender is spinning helps ensure it mixes well and doesn’t form clumps at the base of the blender.
Finally, add cinnamon to the blender and blend on high speed for 10-15 seconds to ensure all the ingredients are well mixed.
*Option: add a couple of ice cubes too, should you wish.

Summary
This protein shake has a great level of high quality protein in a drink that can be as light or ‘heavy’ as you wish. Bananas are cheap in the Philippines, so you can add one or two if you wish to thicken or alter the flavour. Trust me – once you get used to blending your own budget-friendly protein shakes – you won’t go back to the over-hyped and over-priced garbage the clever marketeers want you to waste your money on.
Lastly – You KNOW what’s in this!
